We’re in this together, trusting in God.

John Wesley’s decree: “Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can.”

WHAT WE BELIEVE

God, who is one, is revealed in three distinct persons.

We believe in the mystery of salvation through Jesus Christ. God became human in Jesus of Nazareth. His life, death, and resurrection demonstrate God's redeeming love.

The Holy Spirit is God's present activity in our midst. When we sense God's leading, challenge, support, or comfort, it's the Holy Spirit at work.

Genesis 1:27 tells us that we've been made in the image of the Creator. Like God, we have the capacity to love, care, communicate, and create.

The church is the body of Christ, an extension of Christ’s life and ministry in the world today.

We believe that the Bible is God’s Word and is the primary authority for our faith and practice.

WHO WE ARE

We are a United Methodist congregation, part of an 11-million-strong global church that opens hearts, doors, and minds through active engagement with our world.

The Methodist founder, John Wesley, and other early Methodists placed primary emphasis on Christian living and putting faith and love into action. This emphasis continues today at West Market Street United Methodist Church in our worship and in the wide range of programs for children, youth, young adults, and older adults; our far-reaching ministries; and the life of our church.

The United Methodist Church believes God's love for the world is an active and engaged love. It is a love seeking justice and liberty. We cannot just be observers. So, we care enough about people to risk interpreting God's love, to take a stand and to call each other into a response no matter how controversial or complex.

Reconciling Ministry

As the "Reconciling West Market" community of West Market Street United Methodist Church, we serve our God of grace, who loves without condition, by continuing the work that Jesus started to welcome all of God's children. We celebrate diversity without exception, including members of the LGBTQ+ community and their families, via membership and baptism. We advocate for full inclusion of the LGBTQ+ community within the United Methodist Church to worship, to join in fellowship and ministry, the gift of marriage, the sacraments of baptism and holy communion, and to answer the call to ordination.
