USHERS + GREETERS
Volunteers serve as greeters and ushers at our traditional services. Greeters welcome worshipers on the front porch of the church before each service. Ushers are responsible for assisting worshipers to their seats, receiving the offering, and assisting with the flow of the communion services. Together, these teams provide hospitality on Sunday mornings to welcome all to worship at West Market Street UMC.
ACOLYTES
The traditional service of the Methodist Church follows liturgy that include the lighting of the altar candles as the service is begun and then extinguishing the candles and carrying the flame forth out into the world as the service ends. This indicates that we move from worshiping God within the church to serving God outside of the church. The duty of acolyte is traditionally given to our older elementary or middle school-aged children which provides them an opportunity to serve as worship leaders in the church. Contact our church office if your child would be interested in volunteering for this role.
ALTAR GUILD
The altar guild is responsible for setting the Lord's Table and preparing the sanctuary for worship. Their duties are acts of prayer as well as service.
Communion Stewards are responsible for preparing the Lord's Table for communion as well as caring for the linens used for communion.
Altar Guild volunteers are responsible for making sure that the pulpit paraments are the seasonal color and that the chancel and sanctuary are ready for worship.
