Welcome to the C4C Blog!
Our Care for Creation (C4C) blog starts today! You will be able to read new material often and see posts on creation care theology, creation care events in both our church and the community, updates on the creation care and creation justice movements within the wider Methodist Church, and interviews with people involved in the work.
Our inspiration for the blog is the Green Church Initiative (GCI) of the Western NC Conference, launched here at West Market UMC in January. The GCI is a process and a tool for helping churches engage more deeply in church-wide creation care work. While the process is coordinated by the C4C team, everyone is encouraged to participate in whatever ways possible.
We are working toward obtaining the GCI’s “Green Church” designation at the annual conference in June. We are well on the way, due in part to the great care for creation work our congregation has done in the past! More recently, our Friendship Class has engaged in a four-part series on creation care, our youth have done a climate simulation workshop and have participated in Greensboro’s Winter Wipeout clean-up, and the C4C team has reintroduced our Creation Justice Sustainability Tips in the church’s e-blast. In addition, we are bringing back our Shred-a-Thon in April and will hold Earth Sabbath services on the Sunday after Earth Day.
Look for more on all of these activities, and some new ones, in future blog posts!
